Family Day

So much has been happening here lately. We had a girls night a couple weeks ago, some friends of ours had there first baby. Justin went out of town and then some good friends of ours moved into Pearland. We've been working crazy hours....and then yesterday came. The day we have all been looking forward to for weeks. Family Day!

We actually turned off our phones and then didn't bring them with us. It was super refreshing. Our day included shopping, eating, playing/napping/READING (woa) eating again (both meals not cooked by either of us) and then walking, yardwork (the good kind) and then finished the night off with our covenant groups.

For the last forever of our lives, J has had some difficult hours, but the Lord is good to us, because we do get to spend good time together. Until we moved here. He is super busy all the time. So yesterday, a day where neither of us had to go anywhere or had any appointments with anyone. It was amazing. So thank you to all the people who didn't call, text or come over. Thanks to work for not scheduling us, it was much appreciated.

The Beginning of our Journey

The reason I want to start this blog is so that over the course of the year we can have a record of how we are falling in love with the place we have just moved to. I want to have a hard copy reminder of how we have fallen in love with Pearland.

We just moved from Louisville, KY last December. If you have never been to Louisville then I feel sorry for you. It is such a wonderful city! The weather is amazing, it is close to so many other cities, it is a great place for farmers markets and the such and really is a very diverse culture. I loved it because it felt like a bigger city and yet still had a small town feel. Most of my best friends live in Louisville. We bought our first house there. And in addition to these wonderful things, we had both of our children there, so I know I have a special place in my heart for Louisville.

Before that we lived in Lynchburg, VA. At first, it was a terrible place for me. But really, I think it was the attitude I had. I was so afraid that we would actually like living there, and then we would never move. That fear stemmed from the advice that our pastor gave us. Which was really good advice for us. He said "Lynchburg is a great place to raise a family, so don't get sucked in. Go to school and get out." and we followed it. We did not get sucked in. We did, however, make some great friends! Friends that we will probably be friends with for life. But we left. We went to school and got out just like our pastor told us to. But I cried really really hard when we left. The place that I hated four years prior had turned into my home and I loved it! The Lord had blessed us with an amazing community of believers for the last 8 months that we were there. They completely changed our lives.

So the question is, Will there be a special place in our hearts for Pearland, TX one day? I want to fall in love with it. I want this special place to be home for us. I want to know all the little quirks of this city. I want to know the people here, to understand them and to love them. But really I have no doubt that we will love this place. That this will be our new home. That we will one day, be proud to live in the great state of TEXAS and to be called Pearlanders.
